CASS partners with state government, county agricultural commissions, and other public agencies and boards.
Roles and Responsibilities
- USDA is responsible for enforcement of applicable laws, regulations, and policies. It is exclusively responsible for interpreting U.S. and international grades, standards, and related operation requirements.
- CDFA is responsible for adhering to all applicable Federal laws, regulations, instructions, and policies in carrying out grading, inspections, auditing, certification, and related activities.
- CASS is responsible for providing services including labor, tools, equipment, supplies, facilities, and personnel to perform shipping point inspections of fruit, vegetables, and other products for inspections.
The CDFA and USDA have an agreement to provide inspection and audit services for specialty crops and related products as authorized by Congress. The CDFA and CASS have an agreement for CASS to provide agricultural inspection services, point of production, packing, storage, shipping, or receiving within California using federal, county, state, or industry grading standards.
